Cleaning A Mattress Tip - Use Baking Soda

Use Baking Soda To Clean And Deodorize Your Mattress

Below is a video giving a tip for cleaning a mattress -- use baking soda.

Over time your mattress can get a bit dirty, just from constant use, and also can hold onto odors.

To generally clean and care for your mattress a simple tip is to sprinkle baking soda over the entire surface of the mattress and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.

I would suggest that letting it sit for even longer, including up to overnight, is even better if you can spare the mattress for a night or two.

The baking soda will help absorb odors and also any lingering moisture in the mattress which can lead to mold and mildew buildup.

After letting the baking soda sit for a while you should vacuum, using your upholstery attachment, all of the baking soda up.

Then flip the mattress and do it all again on the other side.

You can add this step of using baking soda for cleaning a mattress as part of your routine when you flip your mattress two to four times a year.

Sunshine works too
by: Fannie

I may try this method when the weather is bad, but when the weather is good I like to drag the mattress outside and let it sit in the sun to freshen it up, generally as part of my annual spring cleaning.

Great article!

Thanks for sharing the post! Our grandmothers weren't dumb. They used the simplest ways to clean their homes. Entire chemical industry is trying to sell us cleaning products even though we do not actually need them. By the way, do you think that the cleaning products are better now than they were 10 years ago?
