Steam mops are a relatively new invention, or at least they've just begun to gain popularity.

There are many reasons for this, I'm sure, but some that come to mind include the ability to easily clean dirty floors easily without harsh chemicals.

Steam, since it is moist heat, is a very effective cleaner all by itself. It can literally loosen dirt and grease from your floor just from the high temperature.

These products can be expensive, or quite cheap, but perhaps you get what you pay for.
