Those of us with laundry allergies need to use hypoallergenic fabric softener, dryer sheets and other laundry supplies, as well as detergent.
I've compiled a list of the major brands available, along with attaching reviews of any brands that I or other readers have tried, to help you find out which will work best for you.
The reason that using a hypoallergenic product is important is because typically they are scent and dye free, the two main types of ingredients that can cause allergic reactions for many people.
I will caution, however, that some products say they are "hypoallergenic" but they do contain a scent, and when that is the case I note that below, since even these scents can really bother some people.
Unlike unscented detergents, there are less of these scent free dryer sheets, softeners and other laundry supplies to choose from. The reason for this is that manufacturers have found that less people are interested in using the products unless they have a scent.
However, I will say as time passes more and more products are coming onto the market as companies realize many people want quality products that don't cause them health problems from extra scents and dyes.
Here's a list of the fabric softeners available on the market which are designed to be used for people with sensitive skin and/or allergies that I'm aware of. You can click on the image to go to a place to order the product, if you're interested (where available).
Many people love All Free & Clear detergent, so if you use that you may also want to try All's version of a hypoallergenic softener.
I don't currently have a review of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.
This softener is made for babies, but should work just as well on anyone else's clothes as well.
It is eco-friendly, and can be used in either regular or high efficiency washing machines.
I don't currently have a review of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.
Downy is known for all of its scents, but it also has a Ultra fabric softener which is designed without scents or dyes.
Here's a review of Downy Free (from me!)
In addition, you can click here to learn more about Downy fabric softener, in general.
Unlike the other fabric softeners which are on this list, which are oil-based, Dropps fabric softener pacs are mineral based and act to soften clothes in a different way than most other liquid fabric softeners.
You can read more about Dropps fabric softener pacs here.
I haven't got a review of this product yet though, so please share your review here, telling me what you thought of this product.
Purex has a liquid version available which the company said is hypoallergenic fabric softener since none of them contain dyes, but it does have a fragrance. They are difficult to find online though.
Therefore, I would be careful about these Purex offerings, making sure the scent will not bother you, since scent can be just as much of an allergen as dyes.
I don't currently have a review of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.
Seventh Generation has a free and clear liquid version you can use (along with dryer sheets which I'll discuss more below). Along with being hypoallergenic, it is also eco-friendly, since the softener is plant-based.
This company has a whole line of free and clear products, not just liquid and sheets softeners, so if you need scent and dye free items throughout your house they have a wide selection to choose from. You can learn more about Seventh Generation cleaning products here.
I don't currently have a review of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.
Snuggle is a big name in laundry, and it is good to see that they recently released a scent and dye free version of their products. They have both a liquid and sheet version available (I'll discuss the sheets more below). You can learn more about Snuggle fabric softener, in general here.
It is more difficult to find the liquid version, at least online, I've found. Even though it's harder to find I've gotten one review of this softener, which was negative, saying that Snuggle Free & Clear gave a faint rancid odor. I'd be curious to see if others had the same experience!
I questioned whether to add this brand to this list, since typically Sun & Earth's liquid softener contains a light citrus scent from the essential oils they add to the product.
However, on their website they offer an unscented version, which just does not have the essential oils added to it. I have not seen it for sale anywhere except on the website though.
If you've used this product you can share your review here.
Some people don't want to use a softener that must be put into the washer, but instead would rather add the softener and static control agent to the dryer. Or perhaps, you like to do both.
Below is the list of available allergy free and sensitive skin dryer sheets that I'm aware of. I'll confess I've tried more of these myself, since I prefer sheets to liquid!
This is an eco-friendly product, and is a bit unusual compared to some other dryer sheets.
Instead of using the sheet one time and then throwing it away, each of these sheets is reusable, up to 300 times to soften and reduce static cling.
I don't currently have a review of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.
Bounce is one of the biggest brands of dryer sheets, and they have an unscented version. You can read more about Bounce dryer sheets here.
I've personally used these dryer sheets, and I've got a couple of Bounce free and sensitive dryer sheets reviews. They tend to be more expensive than some other brands, but work well.
This is a green company, and they've made a wet dryer sheet that is both scent and dye free.
These sheets are reusable, with each one being able to be used twice.
I don't have any reviews of this brand, so tell me about them here if you've used them.
These eco-friendly sheets are not dry, like many sheets are but instead wet.
They are scent free, and also each sheet can be used two times.
I've not received any reviews of this product, so if you've used them please share your experiences with me here.
The Seventh Generation free and clear sheets are both good for those suffering from allergies, but also eco-friendly. They use plant-derived softeners and come on unbleached paper which can be composted after use in your dryer.
Here's a picture review of free and clear Seventh Generation fabric softener sheets.
Snuggle's free and clear dryer sheets are much easier to find than their liquid version, but still are hard to find online. They are both scent and dye free.
I've received a couple reviews of these products, including experiencing it myself, and both and another reader experienced allergies to this product. Not good. Here's the Snuggle free and clear reviews here.
I've got a family member that is not only an allergy sufferer, meaning we've got to use hypoallergenic fabric softener and dryer sheets in our home, but we are also on a tight budget.
I know a lot of my readers are too, so I've tried to add reviews of store brand products which are scent and dye free to share what works well, and doesn't, for more ideas and ways to save money while keeping yourself and your family allergy free.
Kroger Home Sense Brand
Here's my Kroger Home Sense brand review which I thought were OK, but perhaps a little skimpy on the amount of softener on each sheet.
Meijer Jump Brand
I've also tried Meijer Jump brand, and the link has my review of this store brand. Basically I liked them pretty well.
Simplicity Brand
Here's a Simplicity dryer sheets review, which were marketed in Walmart for a while, but may now be discontinued.
Target Up & Up Brand
I've also personally tried these sheets, and you can read my Target Up & Up dryer sheets review. Overall, they didn't impress me since other generic versions seemed to have more softener contained within the sheets than these did.
Walgreens Brand
I've personally used the Walgreens Brand dryer sheets (click the link for the review), and my impression of them was overall positive. They were much cheaper than the brand name Bounce sheets too!
Walmart Great Value Brand
Finally, I've also personally used the Walmart Great Value Free & Delicate Dryer Sheets (click the link for my review) and loved them.
Along with a liquid softener, this brand also has unscented dryer sheets.
One thing that makes these sheets even more eco-friendly is that they are completely biodegradable, in 21 days.
I don't have a review of this product yet, so if you've used them share your experience with me here.
If you think both hypoallergenic fabric softener and dryer sheets are hard to find, wait until you try to find laundry stain removers without scent. It is very difficult to do.
Here are some of the products available without scent that I'm aware of.
This brand also has a laundry pretreater designed for baby clothes, but that could also be used for adults.
It is advertised as carcinogen free.
If you've used this product I'd love to hear how it worked for you, so share your opinions and experiences here.
Babyganics is a brand of products made for babies, but their laundry stain remover will work just as well on adult clothing as it does for childrens.
It is also a green laundry supply.
I have not received any reviews of this product yet, so if you've used it please share your review with me here.
Charlie's Soap makes a scent free green laundry pretreater.
In addition, it has created a laundry booster and hard water treatment, which uses "biodegradable phosphate" to soften wash water.
You can learn more about Charlie's Soap products here, but I don't have a review of these products so click the link to review one.
Clorox 2 is a color safe bleach, and it comes in a free and clear variety, along with several scented ones.
You can read my Clorox 2 free and clear bleach review here.
This green company makes both a scent free powdered oxygen bleach, and also a version contained in pods.
I've not received any reviews of these products, so please share your experience here so I can learn more about this brand.
This brand bills itself as having natural ingredients, and it has created this bleach alternative which is both scent and dye free.
It is dual compatible, so it works in both HE and standard machines.
I don't have any reviews of this product so please share them with me here.
The Laundress laundry products are a high-end brand, which is based out of New York. They have developed an enzyme based unscented stain solution.
I do not currently have any reviews of this product, so if you've used it please share your review here.

Their natural oxygen bleach comes in powder form.

Oxiclean Free is a dye and perfume free version of Oxiclean, which is a type of oxygen bleach. In addition to the free version the baby stain soaker version is also scent and dye free.
Here's a review of the free version of Oxiclean.
Further, I have several Oxiclean Baby Stain Soaker reviews, all of which are positive.
Seventh Generation, as you can from how many times it is on this list, has an entire line of scent and dye free laundry supplies, including both powdered oxygen bleach and liquid chlorine free bleach.
I haven't received any reviews of either of these products, so please share your reviews here.
In addition to making hypoallergenic bleaches, Seventh Generation also makes a laundry stain pretreater which is designed for allergy sufferers.
The product, like all those from the company, is also naturally derived. It contains enzymes to help fight stains.
I haven't received any reviews of this product yet, so if you've used it please share your review with me here.
Shout has recently come out with a dye and fragrance free version of its laundry stain remover, which is also 99% natural.
I have tried this product and was pleased with it, as was another reader. You can read these Shout Free laundry stain remover reviews here.
This page is, of course, a work in progress. I obviously haven't (and couldn't) try every brand of hypoallergenic laundry supplies available, and new ones come onto the market every day while others go off.
Therefore, I'd love to hear from you, to make this page more complete. You can share your fabric softener review here, your dryer sheets review here, and your laundry stain removers reviews here.
As you add reviews I will put them on this page to help others find products that will work for them and their allergies and sensitive skin.
If you're looking for a allergy-free version of other laundry supplies, you obviously need to protect yourself during the entire laundry cycle, not just during part of it.
The best way to do that is to use a hypoallergenic laundry detergent, such as one of the ones I've listed in the linked article.
Just like with this list, I've shared many of the major brands which make an allergy free detergent, and also linked to reviews from myself and others, to share which ones work best.
