Below I've gathered tips for removing coffee stains from carpet, focusing on home remedies instead of using specific commercial carpet cleaning products.
The video below shows you a good technique for blotting your carpet to remove coffee stains on your carpet.
The lady in the video is a professional carpet cleaner, so she shows you how to deal with the spill right away.
However, she does not show you any techniques for removing any discoloration left behind in your carpet after you have blotted the stain.
Instead, she suggests only using cold water to blot at the stain, and then to call a carpet cleaning professional.
If you don't want to call a professional you can check out my tips for how to remove coffee stains, or keep reading below for more tips, ideas and home remedies.
Below is a another video, and there are several things I really like about it, which include:
1. That the video makes a distinction between when you have spilled black coffee, coffee with cream in it, or coffee with sugar in it.
This may, at first, seem like an arbitrary distinction, but when you begin to combine ingredients like cream and sugar into the coffee, it becomes a "combination stain."
A combination stain generally takes additional steps to remove, because you have to remove all parts of the stain, and it uses different steps.
Further, you have to be careful not to set one part of the stain while treating another part of it.
2. I like that the video emphasizes not saturating the carpet fibers too much.
This is one of the most common mistakes in carpet stain removal, and it can cause mildew in the carpet if the area does not dry out enough, and also deterioration of the carpet backing and pad.
3. Finally, I like how the video shows stain removal techniques that start with the least, to the most aggressive.
It is important to always try the gentlest method first, and only go to the harsher treatments if needed.
Basically, the video suggests to first try getting as much of the spill as possible just using warm water in a spray bottle, and only to the extent that you need to use something else, try some mild carpet shampoo or a solution using dish soap to remove the stain.
Below is another video, and it suggests the following stain removal solution for your carpet.
