Recommended Rust Stain Remover Products

Here are the rust stain remover products that I (Taylor) recommend, based on my research.

These stain removers are categorized based on what surface they are designed to work on.

Be careful with all these removers because they generally contain some pretty harsh chemicals to get out the rust stains, which can be hard on your skin and the environment.

Therefore, always follow the instructions on the product carefully so you don't misuse it.

Clothing Rust Removers

The following products are designed to remove rust spots from clothing. Some are for use on only white clothes, while others are also safe on colored clothing, as long as the fabric is colorfast.

Rit Rust Remover - this product is only recommended for use on washable white clothes. Therefore, it is basically of limited usefulness unless you are "lucky" enough to get a rust stain only on your white t-shirt, for example.

Whink Rust Remover - this product can be used for removing rust from washable clothing, but has the advantage of working on any colorfast fabric, not just white.

Here's a quick review of Whink from a reader, who uses it to keep her kids' karate uniforms clean.

Carbona Stain Devil #9 - this product is designed to be used on both white and all color fast colored clothing. To use presoak the garment in this product for up to two hours, and then rinse with warm water. Do not let this product dry onto the garment.
