Tilex Mold And Mildew Remover Review - It's A Mold Killer

by Michelle
(California)

Michelle has provided a review of Tilex Mold and Mildew remover.

Michelle says:

I needed a mold killer for my bathroom wall, because it occasionally gets mold in the corner.

The wall is painted, and so I was concerned about using this product on it, but after trying it, it seems to work well.

I find that Tilex does quite well with a minimum of scrubbing, to remove the mold that develops there.

In addition, it works on other areas of the bathroom too, but does leave noticeable streaks on the tile. I usually have to use another mild cleaner to remove the streaks after using it.

My main caution with it is that you have to be careful when spraying it, that it doesn't get on your rugs. For example, when spraying in the bathroom recently I accidentally had some mist onto our bathroom mat, and it took the color out of it. Now, I always take extra precautions to protect the floor surfaces before spraying it.

Taylor says:

Thanks Michelle for your Tilex Mold and Mildew remover review.

Sorry to hear about your bathroom rug, but I am not surprised. This product contains bleach, which will obviously remove color from fibers, such as your rugs, with contact. Therefore, it is worth the extra effort to protect those surfaces before using it, as you've suggested.

I would be interested to hear even more reviews of this product. You can share your mold cleaners review here, for this or any other product, sharing how it has worked for you, and your experiences with it.

Tilex Mold And Mildew Remover Review - Keeps My Shower Clean

by Connie
(Racine)

Connie says:

I have tried several different products in the past to clean my shower, all of which I have been unsatisfied with.

Now I use Tilex Mold and Mildew cleaner to clean my shower stall and glass shower door, and am much happier with it. It does a great job of cutting through the mold and mildew, as well as just everyday soap scum that accumulates over time. It restores the shower stall back to its original brightness.

I like that this cleaner is easy to find in most stores, and I have had several coupons that I was able to use toward the purchase of it.

The only thing that I do not like about it is the strong smell that it has. It tends to burn your nose when you breathe it in. You have to be sure and keep the room well ventilated and the fan on.

Taylor says:

Thanks Connie for your review of this product.

You are right that you need to use this product in a well ventilated area, because it contains bleach which is not something you should breathe in too much.

It is interesting that you say it also works on soap scum, because it is really not advertised to do that.

To the extent you are using this product to remove mildew and mold from your shower, I would continue. However, it is a pretty harsh product, in my personal opinion, to continue using just as your normal shower cleaner.

I would suggest getting another product for cleaning your shower. You can read lots of shower cleaners reviews here to help you find something milder for use on your soap scum and other shower grime that is not fungal in nature.

Has anyone else used this product, or something else to remove mold and mildew from hard surfaces around their home? If so, you can share your mildew cleaners review here, or read other reviews which have already been submitted.

Keep the empty bottle. Save $$
by: George

I couldn't find Tilex at the store so I put about an inch of bleach in the empty bottle and filled the rest with water. It works just as well and cost almost nothing. The ingredients label on the bottle even says it is 2.4 % bleach and 97% "other" which I'm sure is water. I also looked up the SDS information to confirm.

Works on Sheetrock and trim too
by: Allen Leaird

We did a lot of energy reduction programs in low income homes and most had a mold issue. Some small but many very large, as they kept things stacked against walls, cooked using water, several people in home using showers, etc. No mechanical venting at all.

We removed the Black molded sheetrock, Insulated walls, removed unvented heaters (very important) and installed mechanical venting that was constant run and whisper quiet. Vents were also placed in bathrooms and hood venting for the cooking stove.
This was all good but without using Tilex mold it would have came back. Moisture and darkness is all mold needs and most mold products kill on contact whereas Tilex keeps killing for a time until it's all gone.

For us, in a high humidity area, Tilex is the go to for mold and mildew. It works but adding some venting will keep it from coming back. Mold and mildew need moisture and captured air. Identify the water source and address it. It can be not using the vent hood on your stove and cooking a lot of beans. Pumps water into the house envelope. Make a few small inexpensive changes and use Tilex and your good to go.

This is only my opinion.

Beware stained my counters

I sprayed this product on my white kitchen Formica counter tops and on one of my porcelain bath tubs.
There are now yellow stains on both. I have tried bleach scrubbed with steel wool twice to no ava
